Reading stories VS Watching TV and Playing computer games

Some people believe that reading stories from a book is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Children are thought to be more knowledgeable if they focus on reading more than watching TV and playing video games. My own view is that although I approve of the usefulness of reading books to them, using technology to entertain also has several merits.

First and foremost, books obviously provoke a child’s imagination as he needs to picture a character, a thing and a view basing on how they are described through flowery words. Thereby, his imagining ability as well as his right brain will be developed. Secondly, I notice that people tend to absorb Literature knowledge better if they have reading stories as a hobby. To illustrate, the majority of girls in my class are bookworms. They always collect excellent novels, read them and even found a reading club. They therefore usually get high scores in every Literature tests. In contrast, they boys do not because they are generally lazy to read. Finally, it seems to me that school students who are keen on this activity are less addicted to modern equipment which are unhealthy to them than those who are not.

Otherwise, however beneficial reading stories to children is, I would argue that they also should spend time utilizing special devices to watch films or play games. Some gadgets nowadays complete a child’s enjoyable childhood. For instance, were there not televisions, nobody could not have joyful days with worldwide famous and colorful cartoons such as Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse and Ben10 , and their life hence would be lame. Another noticeable point is that young individuals can make friends globally and improve languages, particularly English thanks to games. As most games today are English, my 10-year-old cousin, for example, has to use English to chat to other players which helps him to remind English grammars and vocabulary to understand what they say and keep nice relationships with them.

To conclude, I still claim that both methods have educational values as not only does reading fairy tales make young children more creative, love Literature and not affected by technology, TVs and e-games enable them to enjoy their childhood and develop language minds as well.
