I have been reading CARL SAGAN's CONTACT. In it, I found this sentence difficult to understand grammatically.
There are no commas, conjunctives, relative pronouns and, I think, two different idea (saying) continues without them. Below is the sentence I'm talking about.
[The argument was picked up by those in the United States made uneasy by the late reduction of tensions between the two nuclear superpowers.]
Did it mean that the argument was picked up someone in US and it made uneasy... ?
The argument was picked up by those in the United States (who were) made uneasy by the late reduction of tensions between the two nuclear superpowers.
