Reading dates

I know a lot people have asked this kind of question before but it seems there isn't one that can completely answer my question.

Ex. Sunday, 5th
I already know that it can be read in 2 ways as following.
1)Sunday fifth
2)Sunday the fifth

My question is
1)which one is the most appropriate and grammatically correct one to use?
2)which one is the most common in everyday conversation?

Thank you Emotion: smile
