Reading comprehension question

Hello,

Can someone help me with this reading question? It's an article on maps. Here's the relevant extract:

Then there was the archaeologist, the historian and, much later, the modern
geographer, each with their own special requirements. In order to address these,
the present-day cartographer has had to evolve methods of mapping all kinds
of ‘distributions’, from geographical strata and climatic regimes to land use. It is the
present widespread recognition of the of the value of the map in the co-ordination and
interpretation of phenomena in many sciences that has led to what may truly be called
a modern renaissance of cartography.

5. The writer implies that present-day cartographers

A have to be highly adaptable
B enjoy a high status in the scientific world
C are rediscovering the value of early maps
D have achieved something extraordinary

(Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English 2 - Student's Book with Answers)

The key says it's B, but A makes more sense to me. He says that present-day cartographers has had to evolve methods to be suit the needs of various people: from archaeologists to historians.

Does anyone agree that A is more logical, and if not, why is B the correct answer?

Thank you in advance.

I agree with you. There is the line that says "widespread recognition of the of the value of the map in the co-ordination and interpretation of phenomena in many sciences" but I can tell you that it's not uncommon to value the result of someone's labor without valuing the person who achieved it. You have to infer that valuing the map means the cartographer him/herself is highly valued, while the A choice is started overtly.

Thank you, Grammar Geek. Yes, I have given that line some thought, but as you rightly say, the writer doesn't say that the cartogrophers were valued - only their labour was. To say that they were valued in the scientific world requires quite a bit of extrapolation.

It can't be denied that they had to be adaptable for their work needed to be suitable for archaeologists, historians and geog

"(...) It is the present widespread recognition of the of the value of the map in the co-ordination and

I don't think it is an error or any extrapolation.
If read the last sentence you can justify the B answer.

the present widespread recognition
