Dear all!Could anyone can help me with this reading comprehension? This is the passage from a paper exam:Every nation has areas of natural beauty. These areas almost always contain valuable and interesting plants and animals that often cannot be found anywhere else on Earth. Therefore, these areas must be protected if they are to continue to add to society's enjoyment and scientific knowledge. For this purpose dozens of countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific have established more than 3,500 national parks and other protected areas. Included in these are many nature reserves that have been set aside to conserve a particular kind of plant or animal. A number of countries have also set aside areas or sites of great historical significance.1. Which title best expresses the ideas in this passage? A. Children’s Park B. Amusement Park C. National Parks D. Nature Reserves2. According to the passage, there are
_____ main types of national parks A. Two B. four C. three D. five3. One of the main features of national parks is that ___________: A. They are similar to zoos. B. They are protected areas. C. There are many visitors D. They are established by governmentsThe answers are 1C. National parks; 2C. three; 3B. They are protected areasActually, I find the three questions in this passage confusing. I have searched the web and I have found that this passage is the extract from the website
http://kids.britannica.com/comptons/article-9276037/national-parks.My questions are:1. We can’t choose “C. National Parks” only if we can only base on the information provided (with only two passages although we all know that the whole text is about the national park). We, therefore can choose either C. National Parks or D. Nature Reserves. In another way, I would add one more option: Protected areas. I vote for it.2. “main types of national parks”. I think there is a problem here. It will be better if we say: According to the passage, there are
______ types of parks (not National park) and reserves. And then the answer will be “national parks, nature reserves and historic sites” because we can’t call “nature reserves & historical sites” national parks. They have one thing in common: protected areas.3. One of the main features of national parks are: I quite disagree with this question because we can choose both “B. They are protected areas” and “D. They are established by government” and I don’t find any problem with option C. There are many visitors” I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks in advance.
