reading clues

Does here "reading clues" refer to "her text" or "human perception". I think the former is true and it means "some reading clues that her text provides in order to decide better about scales, ...". Am I right?

"Like all good artists, she recognises the primacy of ‘creating order’ and her text demonstrates how well she understands the principles of human perception in decoding and interpreting two-dimensional images, reading clues to determine scale, perspective and shadow."

There is insufficient text to be sure, but I surmise that the clues are to her artwork. She understands that human perception (by the people who view her artworks) can read her brushwork (if she is a painter) that suggests scale, perspective, shadow, etc. Does that help you?
