Reading a novel

Hi,

I'm trying to read Wuthering Height (as a novel) but there are lots of words that I don't know. I look up for every word and try to keep them in my mind. As you can guess, it tires and bores me. So how can I read a novel? I know that Wuthering Heights is complicated and some people told me that even native speakers sometimes can't understand some words. But I believe if I read this novel, I can improve myself.

Thanks for your advices.

May I ask why you picked Wuthering Heights? Why not a more contemporary novel?

I would suggest that if you understand the general meaning of the sentence, there is no need to look up every unfamiliar word (unless you enjoy it, of course).

It is such a good book! I think you should keep reading. I am a native speaker of American English, I am a college graduate, and I read a lot of books. I STILL do not understand every word of Wuthering Heights because it is hundreds of years old and people just do not talk that way anymore.

Try to guess from the rest of the sentence what the word means. Only look up a word if it's reall

I'm wondering if by, "favorite novel," you actually mean that the classic movie with Olivier and Oberon is your favorite movie, and so you're trying to read the book that the movie was based on. If that's it, then this may not be a good idea. The novel is difficult and tedious reading even for a native speaker, and moreover, it's nothing at all like the movie, so it's no wonder you're bored by i
