READING

I like reading. I was doing an exercise about phrases and clauses with my 7 year old. He thought reading was the verb. How do I teach him that reading is a noun and nothing else? Are there any tips or clues to decide reading is a noun here?

I like reading fluently. I thought if I try adding an adverb and if it sounds natural then we can assume that reading must be a verb. Unfortunately "I like reading fluently" sounds correct to my non-native ears.
