readding student's names

Dear Teachers,

What do you call the process in which the teacher reads the students’ names when he enters class in order to check who is absent?

What is it called in USA and in England?

Please tell me.

"Taking attendance" would be most common in the U.S. "Calling the roll" is also heard, but to me it sounds a little more old-fashioned.

Yes, here in the United States we refer to it as 'Taking Attendance'. It's just to see who is in class and who is absent.

Many years ago I had a teacher who would come into the classroom saying "I can't answer any questions until I get the roll." I always wanted to hand her a bread roll, but never had the nerve.

In the UK, there's "roll call"; or you can "check/call out the register".

When I was in school, it was either "taking attendance" or "roll call."

Going to school in the UK, "roll call" was unheard of. It was always taking the register in primary schools and registration in secondary schools.
