Hello, everyone.
Would you read the following paragraph and shed a beam of light over me? I cannot figure out what is what.
Q. Read the passage. Then identify the option that does Not belong.
Teachers can boost the self-esteem of their students by focusing on the small improvements they make in class. (a) Students with low self-esteem suffer academically because they do not have faith in their ability to perform well on assessment tasks. (b) Numerical proof that students are making tangible progress can become a point of pride. (c) Help them to acknowledge their scholastic strengths and to identify and systematically improve weaknesses. (d) Lastly, a positive comment in front of peers will acknowledge students' intelligence and make them feel capable as learners.
My answer key pointed at (a). Is the (a) really strange to native speakers? I wonder if the sentence (a) is acceptable to native speakers or totally sound wrong to you. If it is wrong, I would really appreciate it if you gave me the reason why you feel that way about the sentence.

This is my interpretation: I am not sure what is meant by "numerical", but I am guessing " statistics". In any case, I think B is equally irrelevant as A in my opinion. The focus is on helping them to make academic improvement, no matter how small.
