1. Short Information

Rosa Parks was a coloured activist who fought for the civil rights, she demonstrated against the segregation.



2. Early Live
She was burn on 4th February 1913 as Rosa Louise McCauly in Tuskegee, Alabama. She was homeschoold by her mother until she was 11 years old.
After that she went to the Montgomery Industrial School (school for seamstresses).
Then she went to the Booker T. Washington Hight School. For a short time she visited the Alabama State College in Montgomery.
With 19 years she married Raymond Parks, who was a barber.
Ten years later she got active for serval civil rights movements for example the
American Calvin Right and the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), by the way she was the secretary from Edgar Nixon the president from NAACP.


3. The bus incident

The segregation in the USA was very strongly pronounced and in buses too.
In the front of the bus there were 4 rows for white people only, in the back there were also rows reserved for the white. For black people there was only space in the middle of the bus. So, when a white person wants to sit down in the “black-rank” the black had to clear the row. The black must stand or when there is no space they had to leave the bus. And exactly this case entered on the 1st December, a white passenger demanded to clear the seat row. All black passengers cleared the row, but Rosa parks didn’t clear it. The bus driver called the police and demanded the arrest of the 42 year-old women. She got a fine of 14 $, because of interference of the public quiet.
As an answer for her arrest Martin Luther King unknown in that time, organised the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Through this Boycott, the authorities were forced to cancel the segregation in busses and trains.

4. Later lives a death
After her arrest, she became the icon of the civil rights. She lost her job because of the bus incident. She worked as Seamstress until John Conyers hired her as a secretary for his congressional office in Detroit.
Rosa Parks died at the age of 92 years at the 24th October 2005 at 15 pm German times.

5. Award and honors

1999 she got the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor against the battle of the racism presented from Bill Clinton.
This is the highest civil award in the USA.
She also got the Spingarn medal, which is the highest award from the NAACP.
Besides for her honor, the Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery were built. The museum tells the history form Rosa Parks and their connection to the civil rights movement. The US-Senate had decide that Rosa Parks should be kept in the capitol.
She is the first woman, who received this honor.
