Read out 3 x (-5)

(1) How do you read out 3 x (-5)?

(2) How would you read out 3 x (-5)?

Which is correct?

If both are incorrect or unnatural, what should I say?

(Note that in proper typography we use the multiplication sign, "×", not the letter "x", and the minus sign, "-", not the hyphen "-", but in informal writing the letter and the hyphen might suffice.)
