Everything that manifests, everything we experience, is the result of complex causes and conditions coming together, factors reaching far beyond the thing itself.

Does the underlined part mean the results of factors that are far away from the thing itself?

Yes... provided that by factors you mean causes and conditions. It is causes and conditions far beyond (therefore external) to a thing that manifests in it, and results in our experience of it.

A very basic example might be the creation of another person, they're making is not caused by themselves (internal) rather it was the interaction of the parents and their parents and so on (causes far away), and also conditions might be the love involved and other such items.
