Re-write of a statement

I do not like what I wrote and am trying to find another way of saying: Let me see if I can better form my question... "if I can better?" What kind of laungage is that! I know that there is a better way to write this but at the moment all I am finding is cobwebs of the mind. Please advise, thank you.
