re words or expressions in parentheses

Hi

Sometimes I am not completely sure how I should write some clarifying or extra yet pertinent information in parenthses, mainly in regard to the issue of putting or not putting the articles.

Do you have some guides as to help me see these things more clearly?

eg,

Creat an ad for a new product (real or imaginary) -- for this, why not "(a real one or an imaginary one)"?

I think this one is not a super-duper example but I hope you got the idea. Help.

Both are fine; the second is just more wordy.
