Hi Anon That strikes me as the sort of sentence that would be sent out to all of the employees in a department or company, for example. However, that sort of notification is not usually sent by the promoted person himself. Thus, I'd suggest this as a possible alternative: - I am pleased to inform you that John Smith has been promoted to (the position of) QA lead.
