re: passive and active voice / indirect and direct

Everyone keeps saying active voice is used in mostly in writing (to make the writing more fun??)

So what is passive voice used for?

How about indirect and direct speech. When and where are they used?

Everything above is refering to real life situations

No, you will find a lot of passive in writing. Sometimes -- perhaps even often -- it's not the best choice.

The active voice is most often used in speech, although sometimes the passive is used.

To say that one is used more in speech and one in writing would be inaccurate.
