Put an adjective after the verb "grow" when it means "become"

He grew tall. (He became tall.)
He grew impatient. (He became impatient.)
But when grow means "get bigger," use an adverb.

He grew slowly. (The rate of speed of his growth was not very fast.)
He grew quickly.
