Re. dissertation

Hello!
I'm finalising my dissertation in English and have lots of questions.

I'm planning to post some of them here and would appreciate any assistance from your side.

My first question is if it's apprepriate to use the word "dissertation" or I should better use the word "study", actually meaning my thesis.

There is no consistency regarding words, used by my peers...there are actually not so many peers

I favour the term 'dissertation'. That's used by The University of Oxford.
