Rawness and content

Hi

One of the musicians who took part in the Amnesty tour (A Conspiracy of Hope in 1986) said: The Amnesty tour showed us we were right to be pursuing this kind of rawness and content, trying to have songs that described the bleakness and greed of America under Ronald Reagan.

--- I know the meaning of "rawness" and "content" but in this context I'm not sure what this guy was trying to say? What these two words mean in this context? If he says about the songs do you think he's talking about the songs they sang during that tour or about the songs they recorded after the tour. Because I know from the context that when they came back home they started recording and said that this tour somehow inspired them?

Thanks

On second thought I am almost sure this whole sentence refers to the songs they were trying to record.

Yes - I think he is saying that the Amnesty Tour showed them they were on the right path, and after the tour they began to pursue rawness and content with even greater vigor.
