Raw Fish

Having voluntarily chosen to put smoked salmon on my scrambled egg at breakfast, I have today eaten three meals involving raw fish. Dinner, which was correctly described a meal where you cook food in boiling stock at the table, started with some raw fish to be on the safe side (including a tiny raw baby squid). It's not bad, you understand, but can anybody FedEx me a Marmite sandwich? Or a packet of Maltesers?

So why is it called the Land of the Rising Sun? According to my sources, the longest day here lasts from about 04:30 to 19:00; the longest day in the UK lasts from about 04:30 to 21:30. Mind, it doesn't make much difference because of the smog which occludes the Sun.

David (thoroughly enjoying the experience)

although smoked salmon isn't cooked, it's not "raw": it's cured. Cheers, Harvey Ottawa/Toronto/Edmonton for 30 years; Southern England for the past 21 years. (for e-mail, change harvey to whhvs)

If you're not careful with the raw fish, it soon becomes the Land of the Rising Lunch.

Some gentle googling has yielded some information on the origin of the name "The Land of the Rising Sun".
