Ratio and fraction

There are 14 girls and 30 boys in 2010. In 2020, the numbers are 15 and 25 respectively.

As I'm practicing for my IELTS writing task 1, can I write: The ratio of girls to boys decreased from roughly 1:2 in 2010 to 3:5 to 2010.

Does it make little sense mathematically? If it's not properly written, please show me the precise way.

Mike Mky The ratio of girls to boys decreased from roughly 1:2 in 2010 to 3:5 to 2010. That's an increase, so it's contradictory to say it's a decrease. Besides, you have the same year (2010) twice.

  • That's an increase, so it's contradictory to say it's a decrease.
  • Besides, you have the same year (2010) twice.
  • So I'm afraid it doesn't make sense as written.
  • Ratios written like 1:2 and 3:5 are not easily comparable.
