Rather

"Somebody said that it should rather have been called the Norwegian Championship."

I want to express this => People called it Norwegian Championship instead of the right name which was different as the Norwegian competitors won the majority of the races.

Is it wording and the usage of word "rather" fine?

Thanks a lot.
