Grammar

Rather

Hi,

I am confused by 'rather than.'

It has to do with John rather than (with) Tim.

Is (with) necessary?

Regards,
Anj

It keeps the sentence in a parallel form, but it isn't necessary. It would be necessary in certain situations to avoid confusion.
