Vocabulary

rated/was placed

Hi,

I don't know how to use this expression in the sentence:

In 1991 Italy rated very highly/was placed rather high on the scale of 99 observed countries.

Do you have a better idea? Please help me.

Hi, I'd say your wording is fine. I suggest that you use 'rate' rather than 'place', because the purpose of a scale is to facilitate rating. I'd use 'place' when speaking of a list.

  • Of course, you also need a context which explains details of what the scale measured and how the countries were assessed.
