Rap battleground Michigan: Eminem to vote for 1st time

I think "rap" meant "rapper", a performer of rap art. If so, the headline should be "Rap of battleground Michigan..."?

Context:

Rap battleground Michigan: Eminem to vote for 1st time
NEW YORK Emotion: travel — Detroit-area rapper Eminem plans to vote for the first time ever this year, and while he's highly critical of President Bush, he hasn't yet settled on Democrat John Kerry.

Michigan is a battleground for Kerry and Bush. Detroit is reputedly the home of rap music (I would hardly call it an 'art', personally). 'Rap' is a noun serving as an adjective: it is a 'rap battleground', just as the Midwest is an agricultural battleground, and the Southeast is a Baptist battleground, for the two contenders.
