Miss Mayfield came to Mrs Baines home to ask her about Mrs Rigby who used some black magic. Mrs Baines knew a lot about the black magic which Mrs Rigby used but didn't want to tell her anything.
Miss Mayfield thought to herself:
If Rigby’s cult ran in any way true to form, Miss Mayfield could imagine how
very distasteful a brush with it must have been to a woman

The way I see it from the short description you gave is that Rigby's cult is nurtured by her practicing black magic. So for me, the sentence simply says that if Rigby did some black magic in Mrs Baines presence , she (Mrs Baines) must have been appaled by it. (and Miss Mayfiled could imagine that situaton easily).
