ran for shelter

Can I say,

(a) It started to rain. They ran quickly for shelter. The road was smooth, so John accidentally fell down and hurt his ankle. Peter held him to walk. Later, they felt tired to walk. Luckily, they saw two scouts. They asked for help from the scouts.

(b) It started to rain. They ran quickly so that they could go home as fast as they could.

Top answer

Why would John fall on a 'smooth' road? Do you think 'accidentally' is necessary? Isn't that implied in the word 'fell'?
