Vocabulary

ralation vs relationship

Here is a sentence from the IELTS preparation book:

1.The study found a strong ____ between a lack of friends and sibling rivalry.

Answer: Relationship (correlation is also possible, but not relation)

My first choice was exactly the word "relation". Why can't I use it in this context?

I just don't get it. I googled expressions "relation between" and "relationship between" and they both seem to have the same meaning, except "relationship between people" where "relationship" is used.

Could you please help with this confusion?
