Rain or reign?

Hello,

Please tell me if it is rains or reigns in this verse from the song Amazing Grace (by Chris Tomlin). I think it is rains but I am not sure. Please help!

(

(at minute 1:08)

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains/ reigns???
Unending love, Amazing grace

THANK YOU very much for your help!

Like a flood his mercy reigns.

A flood reigns, i.e. the power of a flood dominates and rules, over the land. If you don't believe it just try to challenge a flood and you'll forevermore respect there power.

I think so, too.

I can imagine, metaphorically, His mercy raining unending love and amazing grace, but not His mercy reigning unending love and amazing grace.

It would have to be reigns over unending love and amazing grace, and that neither has anything to do with a flood

Unfortunately it doesn’t make much sense whichever way you spell it…so better to disengage the brain or sing the original hymn!
