Rain dig hole

Is this correct? Have you ever heard this?

It rained so heavily that the rain dug a hole in the grass/sand. (depending on where you are, back yard or at the beach, you see a huge hole after a rainstorm.)

Can you say "The rain dug a hole in the ground."?

What about "The rain cracked the concrete."

Thank you
