How to write an essay.

1. Think about your topic. Decide what you are going to write about. For example, the environment.

2. Decide what type of essay you are going to write. Is is controversial? Are you going to argue a point? Are you going to tell a story, a narrative? Are you going to explain something, for example: "how to make the perfect chocolate chip cookie"? Are you going to describe a person, like "my aunt is the wisest person I know."

For example: every person should pledge to use 20% less energy in their daily lives to aid in the prevention of global warming.

3. Decide on 3 main points to support your argument. For example: 1) global warming is a crisis that will affect our children and grand children. 2) we all can conserve our energy usage by 20%. Here are some examples. 3) this will make a difference, but here are some other actions.

4. Write the main paragraphs. Write the introduction. Write the conclusion.

5. Edit, revise and polish.
