RAGGING--AN ACADEMIC EVIL

Ragging has, of late, become a nightmare to students and their guardians. It is but the other name of physical and mental torture to which students fresh in a hostel or college are put. It is said to be an ordeal to make students fit for the struggle for existence, which is an endless succession of difficulties. But, it is a survival of medieval barbarism. It is vain to cite examples of forms of this devilish practice, for they are of ill-contrived schemes to persecute one. Bathing in icy water in wintry night, kissing an electric bulb, walking naked along corridor, crawling under a car, consuming filths and so on. Dreams of many aspirants have been shattered. Many have taken to suicidal paths and many have returned home with post-traumatic disorder. The system of ragging has been condemned from all quarters. Even the Highest Courts have put ban on this miscreant practice. Stll, playing havoc in academic order is in vogue. No argument in favour of this brutality should be entertained. Evils in academia stand for criminalisation to country's interests. so all possible means have to be executed to do away with ragging.
