I suddenly recall the bright green grass of my hometown or racing down sandy beaches along the ocean. But they only come in brief glimpses....                          brilliant green grass ...                        running along sandy beaches ...                         they come and go only very quickly.  Hi, The second of the above is how I try to interpret the first? Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

I think the main problem is THEY. It refers to the verb RECALL in the plural. It would be ok if it referred to RECOLLECTIONS.

Change to

I suddenly recall the bright green grass of my hometown or racing down sandy beaches along the ocean. But these recollections come only in brief glimpses.

To improve further, observe parallelism in the two recollections.
