As I was existing off the highway, the aggressive driver came up behind me and raced on by.

What does "race on by" mean?

As I was exiting off the highway, an aggressive driver came up behind me and raced on by.

As you see, there are problems with this sentence. A car cannot "race on by" if it is behind you.

It would have to go around you and then race on by (your car).
