The last sentence isn't clear. To get off the fence means to decide which side of the argument you are on.

Suggestion:I was down and out, Being desparate, I stole/ embassled money from the bank (which I was working for). But I am now a changed man.

I 'll give you an "A" for your enthusiasm for trying hard to learn. But I think you are on the wrong track because you are randomly using these idioms which you haven't yet gotten a firm grip of in an odd way. Please take it as constructive opinion. I have followed your threads and I think you are still weak on your grammar basics and sentence structure. Most of the sentences you had posted sounded much sounding like songs out of tune. "Shooting from the hip" has the connotation of doing something without a plan, or handling a situation with no organized approach, randomly, without a full understanding or aims.
