A robber went behind a register and emptied it. When the cashier saw it, she said, "You didn't just do that."

Why did she say that when clearly she saw him take the money?

Hard to tell out of context. Is this from a situation comedy? The commonest interpretation is that the cashier does not want to believe what she saw.
