"...while serving with the United Nations."

Since 1992, 198 civilians, among them 19 UNHCR staff members, have lost their lives while serving with the United Nations.

I wonder whether the word 'with' is necessary in this sentence. If yes, is it because it sounds more complete or is it just ungrammatical to not put 'with' there?

Thanks

Best wishes,

  • I would say 'witht ' here.
  • 'To serve with' usually identifies the organization that one is a part of, rather than focussing on 'who is being served'.
