"where" or "when"

For example: If we were to go back to 2003, the year where we started our relationship . . .
If we were to go back to 2003, the year when we started our relationship . . .

Guys! Help me!! Is it where or when? Or is there a better word to replace it? They just sound wrong somehow > <
