"used to" and "would"

I learnd the difference between "used to" and "would"

hm..I thought I understood totally. But these examples make me confused.

I got a new bike. My friend ________(ask) to ride it.

At this sentence, I thought "would ask" is natural.

For "to ask" is just a action.

Also "used to ask" can be used.

But the answer key says only "used to ask" is an right answer.

Is it right? I doubt it!!

And next.. (maybe this is the same case.)

When i was a child, I _______(take) a flashlight to bed with me so that i could read comic books without my parents' knowing it.

The answer key says only "used to take" is right. I think both of them can be right, can't they??

I'm so confused~ help me~!!
