"twins" from The Tale of Mr Todd

http://potter.thefreelibrary.com/Original-Peter-Rabbit-Books/1-5

B:"No, no, no! He's bagged my family-Tommy Brock-in a sack --have you seen him?"

Peter Rabbit:"Tommy Brock? how many, Cousin Benjamin?"

B:"Seven, Cousin Peter, and all of them twins! Did he come this way? Please tell me quick!"

B says "all the rabbits who were kidnapped were "twins." How is it possible? As I unsderstand the word, "twin" is either of "two" kids born together. Seven rabbits of Peter were kidnapped by Mr Todd. Is the word used in another sense?

Beatrix Potter is using a dialectical phrase > "them twins" = those twins

Let me correct my question: Seven baby rabbits of Peter Rabbit had been kidnapped by a badger, not by Mr. Todd.

As with cats, dogs and rabbits, several kids are born at one time. Can you say all of those babys "twins"? Even though they are more than 2 babies?

"all of them twins"

2+2+2+1=7

Would it be natural to interpret it as "3 pairs of twins plus one rabbit"? Then not "all of them" are twins; one is not a twin!

Hi,

Maybe three pairs of twins were there, plus one twin whose twin brother was away visiting China. That would make a total of seven twins who were present.[:^)]

I'd interpret it as

and all of them twins = and all of those twins. There were some twins, and all of them were taken. Those twins, as in 'those over there'. Not that everyone who was taken was a twin.

Using 'them' for 'those' is a British English verbal habit in some areas.
