I heard the other day I'm going to buy a new tv set

and I wondered what was the difference of tv set and tv...
so now it is oldfashionable to say it?? should it be better to say to buy a new tv, to sound more natural?

TV set doesn't sound old-fashioned or unnatural to me, but I think it's true that most people say just TV.
