"This is no idle threat"

This is no idle threat.

Is this sentence grammatical and standard? Should it read This is not an idle threat instead?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Your suggestion is a correct sentence. "This is no....." is rather common, for emphasis. This is no joke, I ass

I don't know how much standard it is, but such a construction is grammatically correct. At least, I came across such phrases hundreds of times in "The Lord of the Rings" movie.

However, I reckon that nowadays the construction you suggested is more common.
