"The photo was taked" or "The photo was taking"? Doubt about the participle

0Hello,02br
02br
02br
00This question appeared at the college when we were trying translate the portuguese phrase "A foto foi tirada" (with a past verb "foi" and a past participle verb "tirada") to english.02br
02br
00According with I know, in this case the trasnlate would be "The photo was taking" - the verb to be is the auxiliar, then only it would be in the past, and the participle must be in the present "taking". But some classmates disagree to me.02br
02br
00What do you say?0-

00But mustn't the auxiliar verb carry the past, 3rd person marks, etc. while the principal verb returns to the infinitive form?02br
02br
00Why in this case both the verbs stay int he past?02br
