"the average of year old ..." or "average year old ..." ?

Is it possible to write: "He behaves like the average of year old Europeans." or do I have to write "He behaves like the average year old European." ?

You have to write 'the average eight [or whatever number] year old'.

but may I leave the age out, if it's a one year old? For example instead of writing "...like a one year old..." may I write "...like a year old..." ?

He is a year old. (correct)
