"That girl is she"

Hi folks,

I was refreshing my grammer skills and ran into the following sentence, which the author claimed to be correct.
"That girl is she"

but I think

"That girl is her"

sounds better.

I also have an uneasy feeling about

"We wished we were they."

don't you think

"We wished we were them."

sounds better?

Please comment.

Thanks.

Older, prescriptive grammars will insist on "she", "they", etc., in those positions, but many recent discussions of the topic say that "her", "them", etc. are the proper forms after a linking verb.

Isn't this just an invertion of "she is that girl"?
