"sub processes" or "sub-processes"

Which one is correct?

Same for: "small-scale" or "small scale"

Can someone help me out?

Hi, the use of small scale and small-scale depends on the context in which u r using them. for eg; consider the two sentences below: 1) The government offers loans to people to start small-scale industries. 2) The goods imported by our company are always on a small scale.

I used small-scale like in your first example. Thus since "sub" is also an addition to "processes" like "small" to "scale, it should be "sub-processes"?

Or even "subprocesses". I myself would use tend to use "subprocesses". "Sub-" is a prefix, not a word. By my reckoning that makes space wrong and hyphen optional.

(Of course, "sub processes" could mean "the processes associated with submarines").
