"so to speak" vs. "so to say"

"So to say" is synonymous to "so to speak. I dno't think it's particularly BrE.

Once in a very great while I hear "so to say".
In my experience, "so to speak" is much, much more usual.

I have not heard «so to say». Yet we may say «if I may say so». It is most interesting.

I have also seen «sort to speak». But it is an error, I think.

'Sort of speak' doesn't exist in English, and I've never seen or heard 'so to say' used by anyone but a non-native speaker of English. (I am a native speaker.) Hope this helps.

I've never heard "so to say". I wonder if someone has misheard "so they say".

I think 'so to say' is more appropriate than 'so to speak' when writting an essay because then you a not speaking but conveying a message.In that case what you mean to convey is what you mean to say and so --'so to say'
