"Research after..." or "Research regarding....."

Could someone please help me. Which of the following sentences should be used?:

1. A research after the effects.....
2. A research regarding the effects....
3. A research on the effects...

I generally use "on". The dictionary says that "in" and "into" are also ok. I wouldn't say "a research", but just "research"; "some research" or "a piece of research".
