Hi

Could you please check whether I am using the correct idiom in the the following sentence? What is the exact meaning of the usage "putting your points across"? Emotion: thinking

"From anywhere in the country, you can take a look at the following learning guides on the Ashridge Virtually Learning Resource Centre to get better in putting your points across:"

Thank you.

Hi, We usually talk of putting/getting your point (singular) across but there are some contexts where the plural might be appropriate. The idiom means to explain your 'point of view' or to express your opinions. So I'm not too sure if your sentence is really making that use of it?

  • Without the 'From anywhere in the country' part maybe it works as reading learning guides might help you learn to express your academic opinions better - but the sentence is a bit strange as there needs to be a connection between geography and getting your point across?

Dear nona

Thank you for the explanation.

What I'm trying to say is that the guides will help the users in learning how to communicate their ideas better. I also want them to know they can access the site not only from the capital city, but from any other places within our country.

It may sound daft but the Internet usage is still very very low here, so I'm trying to be
